"Gray Area" describes the fluid and undefined boundaries between reality and surreality, certainty and uncertainty, waking and dreaming. Over the course of several weeks, students in DESMA24: Motion worked collaboratively to develop projects that explore the structures of dreams and memories. Fragmentation, abstraction, collage, nonlinear narratives, and a sense of otherworldliness pervade the myriad projects proposed for this exhibition. The lines between imagination and memory have been thoroughly blurred.
In a world so heavily mediated by online spaces, what defines the real today? Do we have memories that are black and white, or are they always gray?
