Art and Activism in the 21st CenturyJanuary 23, 2007, 4:00 pm »
A celebrated director of opera, theater, and film, Peter Sellars is renowned worldwide for his innovative treatments of classical material from western and non-western traditions, and for his commitment to exploring the role of the performing arts in contemporary society. On the UCLA campus, his classes on "Art as Moral/Social Action" are genuine blockbusters. Sellars' keynote launches the Art + Activism series with energy and eloquence.
The Art + Activism series is a joint program of the UCLA Art|Science Center and the Art|Global Health Center at UCLA, with their respective departments, Design|Media Arts and World Arts and Cultures. Principal funding has been provided by the ArtsForum program of UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, with additional support from the two centers; the two departments; UCLA Center for Performance Studies; the Office of Instructional Development; UCLA Chancellor Norman Abrams; and the Regents Lecturer program. Special thanks to Henri Lucas for the activist poster design.
