Global Experimental SOUNDSCAPES Now

Sound is everywhere, Noise is everywhere, Music is here and there...
Experimental Soundscapes bridge these worlds and connect worldwide via
online networks, cell phones, sensors and even image. Global Experimental
SOUNDSCAPES Now takes a broad survey of the experimental sound art around
the globe presented by sound artists Cindy Bernard (Los Angeles scene);
David Cotner (USA scene); Ken Fields (China / Asia scene); Goran Vejvoda
(France / Europe scene) and Jorge Verdin (Mexico scene). In addition to
overviews of world scenes, sound artist pioneer Bill Fontana and Amy Knoles,
director of the California E.A.R. unit will present their work.

Jorge Verdin was born in Los Angeles CA, and was raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Studied in the design program at San Diego City College, and received a B.A. in graphic design from Art Center College of Design. Currently a member of the Nortec Collective with his music project Clorofila, and along Fritz Torres, as a member of Cha3, their ongoing design collaboration.
Nortec Collective is a group formed by 5 musical projects who created their own sound by combining electronic dance music with the musical idioms of the North of Mexico.

As a musician, Verdin has performed with the Nortec Collective in the US, Mexico, South America, Europe and Japan, at festival and venues as varied as The Hollywood Bowl, Portuguese art galleries, Mexican wrestling arenas and 100 capacity clubs in desert towns. Nortec Collective's Vol.3 CD was released this year to critical praise and he recently finished working on Nortec remixes for both Beck and Mexican dancehall icon, Rigo Tovar.

Besides designing various album covers for Mil Records Nortec's Tijuana based indie imprint, he has also designed a great deal of the Nortec Collective's visuals,including the packaging for the Tijuana Sessions albums Vol 1 and Vol. 3, video backdrops for Nortec live shows, logos, posters, flyers and others. Much of this work has been heavily featured in "Paso Del Nortec" a well received coffee table book documenting the creating of the Nortec "movement" as well as published in Communication Arts, Time Magazine, Print, 34, Flaunt, XLR8R, Springerin, Pulse Magazine, Matiz and many others.

Works as an Art Director at Rubin Postear Associates in Santa Monica, CA. Has done freelance work for Razorfish, Rebeca Mendez Communication Design, Morphosis, Palm Pictures, Nacional Records, Virgin Records-Spain, Designworks USA, AOL, City Search, Oglivy & Mather, Sci-Fi Channel, Go2Net, ACCD and others. He would also like to take the oportunity to encourage other would be designer-musicians not to quit their day job.
