Rick Valicenti

Free Flow lunchtime lecture

November 9, 2005, 12:00 pm   »

Rick Valicenti is the founder and design director of Thirst, a firm devoted to art
with function.

His passion for design and embrace of new technologies made for a dynamic marriage
of imagery and inspiration. Thirst’s strategic and creative versatility continues to lead
the discourse and pursue the elusive ideals of intelligence and real human presence
within today’s world of commerce.

Rick is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) awarded the 2004 AIGA
Chicago Chapter Fellow. Rick’s work has been published in practically every major
graphic design publication. Cover stores include Eye.06 (London), Émigré (twice),
Step and Idea (Tokyo). Recent book publications include Phaidon’s Area 10x10
(published late 2003), Graphic Radicals by Katherine McCoy and Typography One
by Rick Poyner. A 356-page monograph on the Thirst work has been published by the
Monacelli Press and released April 2005 titled Emotion as Promotion.

Rick has lectured on four continents and for the past decade, Rick has contributed his
time and energies to college and high school students in the form of workshops,
personal critiques and conversation about design and professional practice.
