Social Software

Software is culture. Software is art. Software is social.

Social Software is people coming together to create software art and art that explores the role of software in culture. We create collaborative installations, performances, videos, text, and publications.

We consider "software" in an expanded sense, examining the ways that we are programmed by technology around us and the ways we can write software to make change in the world.

We explore code and systems as a medium for creating new forms of art. We respond to the power dynamics, inequities, and biases embedded in the systems that shape our lives.

Current focus areas include accessible technology, open source communities, AI, data, and generative systems.

Social Software is directed by Lauren Lee McCarthy and Casey Reas.
