Atmosphere of Sound: Sonic Art in Times of Climate Disruption

date

time
02:00pm
location
UCLA Royce Hall, 3rd floor, room 306

“Atmosphere of Sound: Sonic Art in Times of Climate Disruption” is a multi-year research project culminating in a large-scale exhibition of sound-based art. UCLA Art | Sci Center proposes to explore the relationship between sound as a post-object art form, and our shifting relationship to the world of things as necessitated by climate change.

Join headliner artist Bill Fontana in activating his newly commissioned sound sculpture, Silent Echoes: Notre-Dame and the Dachstein Glacier, for the first time before a public audience. This duet, weaving audio recorded from the interior of Notre-Dame’s stilled bells and the melting Dachstein glacier in Austria, will be broadcast from UCLA’s Royce Hall and will be audible throughout Dickson Court.

The event will feature opening remarks by Lionel Popkin, Dean of the UCLA Department of Art, and a discussion with curators Victoria Vesna and Anuradha Vikram, followed by a sound walk led by Bill Fontana. Light refreshments will be served.

Please join us Saturday, September 14th, 2-4pm
At UCLA Royce Hall, 3rd floor, room 306
