Christina Yglesias

Lecturer

Christina Yglesias is an LA-based artist, educator, and curator from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her video works use cinema and technologically mediated communication as material to explore how representations of romance are constructed. She received her BFA in 2014 from Mills College and her MFA in 2018 from the University of California Los Angeles Design Media Arts department. During her time at UCLA, she worked to theorize and implement what she calls feminist post-cinema, a practice focused on bridging the gaps between new media, expanded cinema, feminist film theory, and the history of feminist video art. She has also written about and given talks on the idea of a networked social practice, in which social interactions filtered through technology make up the material for artworks. She has taught video, photo, and new media courses in the Design Media Arts department and UCLA and the Communication Arts department at Otis College. She has curated film and video shows for Oddball Film+Video in San Francisco, The Great Wall of Oakland, SPRING/BREAK Art Show in New York City, Fusion Media’s Real Futures Fair, and community art spaces in Oakland, California. She has exhibited her video works in galleries, film festivals, and academic conferences in the US, Europe, and Asia.
