Roy Ascott’s book, Telematic Embrace: visionary theories of art consciousness and technology, edited and with an essay by Edward Shanken is published this April by the University of California Press: www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/8867.html. Another collection of his essays, Technoetic Arts , edited and translated into Korean by.YI, Won-Kon, was published by the Yonsei University Press in 2002. Art & Telematics: toward the Construction of New Aesthetics (Japanese trans. E. Fujihara). was published by NTT, Tokyo, in 1998. His projects have been shown at Venice Biennale, Electra Paris, Ars Electronica Linz, V2 Holland, Milan Triennale, Biennale do Mercosul, and gr2000az, Austria. He is Founding- Editor of Technoetic Arts: a transdisciplinary journal of speculative research, and convenes the annual Consciousness Reframed conferences. www.intellectbooks.com/journals/technoetic/index.htm and is on the editorial boards of Leonardo, Convergence, and the online Chinese language www.tom.com/ . Academic appointments include Dean of the San Francisco Art Institute in the 1970s, Professor of Communications Theory at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna in the 1980s. He founded the international research centre CAiiA-STAR www.caiia-star,net in 1994, and is currently establishing the Planetary Collegium, a global network of research nodes. In addition to being adjunct professor at UCLA, he is Professor of Technoetics at the University of Plymouth, England, and a member of the British Arts and Humanities Research Board.
