Erin Cooney is a visual artist and educator based in Los Angeles. She received a BA in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, studied Graphic Design at Art Center College of Design, and received an MFA from UCLA in Design Media Arts.

In her role as Lecturer in UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts, she teaches courses on ecological arts and design, environmental justice, and media studies. Erin is affiliated faculty and served as Associate Director (2020-22) to UCLA’s Counterforce Lab, a creative studio directed by Rebeca Méndez which uses art and design to engage with ecological crisis and its ties to environmental injustice.

Erin's artwork uses video, installation, performance and community-based practices to investigate issues surrounding ecological crisis and environmental justice, and to explore the role of embodied, psychological, and cultural points of view and belief systems in determining the kinds of worlds we experience and build.
