Davey Whitcraft

( Class of 2006 )

Driven by a ‘do-it-yourself’ attitude, Davey’s approach to work has largely been motivated by the sincerity of an artistic endeavor that seeks to maintain its own space. His ambitions with graphic design began early with the creation of a zine that lasted several years among punk circles. Thereafter, he traveled and studied abroad, and after having satisfied his wanderlust he settled in the San Francisco Bay area, receiving his BFA from CCA. Intrigued by the expansiveness of Southern California, he moved to Los Angeles and pursued a graduate education at UCLA, where he earned an MFA in Design and Media Arts. The summer after graduating from UCLA he established a design studio with business partner Willem Henri Lucas. With the help of friends, Davey and Henri built their own design studio nestled in the backyard of Davey’s Venice Beach home. Today, in the corner of the Willem Augustus studio hangs the ‘work manifesto’ that Davey and Henri created to represent their integrity and thoughtfulness not only as designers but as humans living in the world.
