Gail Swanlund

Gail Swanlund is a writer and designer whose professional practice
includes work for art and design institutions and collaborative work
with visual artists. Swanlund’s work has been exhibited
internationally, currrently in "Design in the White Cube," in Brno,
Czech Republic and recently at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
in “Belles Lettres.” Her essays and visual work have been featured in
publications including Eye, Emigre, IdN, Zoo and numerous design
anthologies, and has received recognition and awards from the former
American Center for Design, the American Institute of Graphic Arts,
and the Type Directors Club. Before joining the faculty at CalArts,
she wrote for the experimental and influential typography journal
Emigre. Swanlund holds a master of fine arts degree in design from
CalArts and is one of the principals of the studio STRIPE L.A.
